Our nation is in desperate need of a good and decent leader.
Let’s be honest, in 2016 we all held our noses and voted.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were two terrible political candidates and even worse people.
Both had long histories of sleazy, if not illegal, behavior. Not to mention the absurd and downright hateful rhetoric that spewed from the mouths of each candidate for over a year prior to the 2016 election.
No one with even half a conscience could look at Trump or Clinton and then go home and tell their children that they went out and voted for a good person.
Sure, you might have agreed more with the policies of one candidate over the other, but no one could say that their decision was based off of morals.
Fast forward to 2020 our nation is as divided as it has been in a very long time and our moral compass is spinning like it has just entered the Bermuda Triangle.
Now, perhaps more than any other time in recent history, our nation is in desperate need of a good and decent person to heal the nation and lead us out of this mess.
Policies and leadership skills are important in any president.
But the president is also meant to serve as a figurehead and the moral compass for the nation.
A president, like any good leader, should be a person we can admire and have no issue with our children striving to be like.
You may have disagreed with the policies of candidates such as George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, John McCain, etc. but it was hard to look at any of these men and say that they were bad, immoral people.
They were, for the most part, good people who promoted policies that some Americans happened to agree with and some didn’t.
That is simply not the case anymore.
In 2016 candidate Trump and candidate Clinton were, plain and simple, bad people.
And 2020 is shaping up to be much of the same.
Trump will obviously be the republican nominee, and literally none of the current democratic candidates can be lumped into the morally decent bucket.
So in 2020 we will have a choice between two very different political agendas; that is for sure. But we will once again be void of a good, decent human being on the ballot box, and that is a real shame.
So here’s to 2024 and hope.
Hope that our nation has not completely descended to a point of no return when it comes to our moral direction.
And hope that a good and decent person may once again find their way onto an American ballot box.
