If there is one scandal the Obama administration truly needs to worry about it’s the IRS scandal.
Benghazi is a political issue aimed more at Hillary Clinton than the Obama Administration. Clinton is the clear favorite to win the 2016 presidential election should she decide to run, and all of the hoopla around Benghazi is more of a political move by the republican party to put a scandal on Clinton’s resume that they can attack in 2016.
In a recent poll done by the Pew Research Center, more than half of Americans haven’t even been following Benghazi and only a narrow margin (40% to 37%) believe that the Obama administration has been dishonest about Benghazi.
At the end of the day, Americans simply aren’t that interested in Benghazi. Four people were killed in an incredibly dangerous part of the world – terrible to be sure, but we’ve got far bigger fish to fry such as the economy, immigration, tax reform, gun violence, poverty, an estimated 27,000 Americans dying each and every year because they do not have access to the proper health care/coverage, etc.
The Associated Press scandal is an issue amongst the media, but again, most of the American public either doesn’t understand or couldn’t care less about the AP issue. Another Pew Research Center poll found that only 16 percent of Americans were following the AP scandal closely.
The big issue for the Obama administration is the IRS scandal.
Every single American is already leery of the IRS, and whether you are a republican or a democrat, the intentional targeting of conservative groups by the IRS for auditing is terrifying to us all.
As of now there is no link between the White House and the IRS scandal, but should even the flimsiest of evidence arise which points to White House knowledge of this auditing scandal, the Obama administration is in very deep trouble.
Despite the fact that Americans voted Obama back into office last year, most Americans are still apprehensive about big government and the extension of government power.
In essence, most Americans are terrified of exactly what has happened with the IRS scandal – the government intentionally targeting people that they may not like or that may have views different to their own.
This issue cuts to the core of what Americans fear could happen to the country if government power were to extend too far into the lives of ordinary citizens.
Whether you agree or disagree with the views of these conservative groups that were targeted by the IRS is irrelevant. These were simply groups of Americans that were trying to form a peaceful organization to advance their political ideas. Every single American should have the right to do this without fear of repercussions from the IRS or federal government.
As of right now, this is still just some lava boiling beneath the surface, but should any evidence at all arise that the White House knew of these actions, the volcano will blow faster than you can say the word “audit.”
