Mitt Romney appeared on the Sean Hannity show last night to discuss the government shutdown and how he would handle the crisis. He began by giving his take on how we arrived at this point: President Barack Obama spent his first two years in office forcing through Congress his policy proposals on a purely partisan basis and then after losing the House to Republicans, spent the next two years repeatedly attacking Republicans causing both sides to retreat deep into partisan corners.
He then pivoted to his main point: leadership is required to get America out of the government shutdown and debt ceiling mess. President Obama’s position that he is unwilling to negotiate is a total failure of leadership, says Romney. The person who is elected to lead our country must be willing and able to engage the opposition and find common ground. Instead, President Obama seems intent on political posturing and making a point that he is right rather than finding a way to end this mess and get the government back up and running.
Say what you want about Mitt Romney, there is plenty of criticism to be thrown his way, but as a Republican Governor of Massachusetts he was able to work across the aisle with Democrats and pass bipartisan proposals. There is a difference between campaigning and governing that seems to be lost on President Obama.
