Just this past week a 23-year-old Australian student was gunned down by three “bored” teenagers and a man walked into to an Atlanta school carrying an AK-47.
“It is another example of murder mayhem on Main Street,” former Australian deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer told CNN’s Piers Morgan.
“People thinking of going to the USA for business or tourist trips should think carefully about it given the statistical fact you are 15 times more likely to be shot dead in the USA than in Australia per capita per million people,” Fischer continued.
While these violent actions may shock the rest of the world they have become nothing more than common place here in America.
School shootings occur on a nearly monthly basis in America and more than 19,000 gun murders have occurred in just the past eight months since the Newtown massacre.
Heck, more Americans are killed by guns right here in America during a six month period than have been killed during the entire Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
So what is so different about America that makes you 15 times more likely to be murdered by a gun and 33 times more likely to be a completely innocent victim of gun violence?
Could it be all of the violent movies coming out of Hollywood?
Nah, these exact same movies appear in virtually every country around the world…why do you think the likes of Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, etc. are constantly travelling the world promoting their films?
Could it be all of the violent video games?
Nah, these exact same video games are available throughout most of the western world. PlayStation, X-Box, etc. and all of their games are available in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, Japan, Austria, Sweden, etc.
Could it be due to mental illness?
Umm, does anyone out there truly believe that America is the only country in the world where people suffer from mental illnesses?
How about religion, perhaps we have moved too far away from traditional religious values?
Well, we are actually far more religious here in America than most other developed nations. Religion is nowhere near as big a deal in Australia, Sweden, New Zeeland, Canada, Belgium, etc. as it is in America.
So then what is so different about America?
Why do we have mass shootings occurring on nearly a weekly basis?
Why have we had 19,000 gun related deaths since the Newtown massacre?
Why are you 15 times more likely to be killed by a gun and 33 times more likely to be a completely innocent victim of gun violence in America when compared to the rest of the Western world?
Think about that for a moment and then ask yourself – what is different about America than other developed nation on earth?
And if you can’t figure out the missing link on your own around why gun violence runs rampant throughout America while this does not occur in any other developed nation in the world …well then just ask your local NRGOP- Nation Rifle Grand Old Party – representative and he or she may be able to provide some more insight as to why you are 33 times more likely to become an innocent victim of gun violence in America and why parents in America have to live in fear every time they drop their children off at school.
The missing link is right there in front of you; if you can’t see it you either just don’t care or you are simply in denial of the facts.
